Bullfights
There is a bullfight (corrida) at the Plaza de Toros every afternoon of the festival (July 7-14) at 6:30pm. This famous, bloody, controversial, ancient, poetic, brutal and respected Spanish tradition is not to miss. Though, be forewarned, it is a bloody event and the bull is killed.
As Hemingway said, "Bullfighting is the only art in which the artist is in danger of death
and in which the degree of brilliance in the performance is left to the
fighter's honor."
Seating is available in the rowdy "sol" section or in the shaded seats (sombra). If you go for the rowdy section in the sun, prepare to be deafened with cheers and drenched in wine, beer and food.
Tickets are distributed by the Casa de
Misericordia, but they are hard to get hold of because many reservations are made in advance. Tickets
for a bullfight are available from the bullring box office after the
previous day’s bullfight has ended. Ticket scalping is widespread.
